Exactly 100 years ago, march 30 1911, died one of the fathers of our country: Pellegrino Artusi.

He has made the unification, at least in the kitchen, of our country through the book that all our grandmothers and all our great-grandmothers have read: The Science of Cooking and the Art of Eating Well. Think that at the end of XIX century the book was written in Italian and was sold all over Italy. It was probably  the first best seller, as between the nineteenth and twentieth century has sold more than the Bible.
Anyway, the book I want to talk you about is "Odore di Chiuso", which Pellegrino Artusi is blameless protagonist. It's written by Marco Malvaldi, a young ( and talented) writer from Pise, I had the fortune and the pleasure of meeting last saturday. Odore di Chiuso, is a detective story, in which the Butler is not  the murder, as  often happens, but the dead. From here starts the story, the castle of Roccapendente upset by the investigation, an unexpected weekend, in which Artusi becomes an extemporaneous detective. A bit like Jessica Fletcher: he arrives, sees a killing, helps to solve the case then he leaves.
I dont want to tell you anything more, I'm sure that in few pages you will not able to stop reading and laughing, fascinated by the  quirky characters, a family of nobles origins, but not high-minded. Marco Malvaldi has a nice word for everyone, with  typical tuscan sarcasm he describes the Baron, the Baroness mother, children, the cousin spinters, maids. There something for everyone.
Odore di Chiuso is published by Sellerio and it's one sale at 13 €.
